چکیده
Local scour is a common threat to structures such as bridge piers, abutments, and dikes that are constructed on natural rivers. To reduce the risk of foundation failure, understanding local phenomenon around hydraulic important. The well-predicted depth can be used reference for structural design river management. Numerical simulation relatively efficient at studying these issues. Currently, two-dimensional (2D) mobile-bed models widely engineering. However, 2D model inadequate solving three-dimensional (3D) flow field because depth-averaged hypothesis. This causes predicted often underestimated. In this study, repose angle formula bed geometry adjustment mechanism integrated into improve numerical holes structures. Comparison calculated measured variation data reveals involving improvement technique predict hole spur with reasonable accuracy reliability.

Numerical Simulation of Skewed Slot Effect on Local Scour Reduction
Local scouring around bridge piers is a natural phenomenon caused by the erosive process of flowing stream on alluvial beds. The 3D flow field around bridge piers interacting with the bed materials increases complexity of local scour process. The local scour depth develops in accelerated flows and if it is not predicted correctly, the bottom level of local scour hole will exceed the original le...
متن کاملOn the Local Scour around Group Piers in Series by Experimental Tests
In this research a physical model is presented. A trapezoidal shape of channel with 1.45 m width, 1 meter depth and banks slope of 1H: 1.5V was used. Circular piers (6, 8 and 10cm diameter) were tested under three different flow discharges of 50, 65 and 80 lit/s and three different median bed material sizes equal to 0.94, 1.31 and 2.12 mm. Seven different longitude distance to pier diameter rat...
متن کاملEffect of collar on time development and extent of scour hole around cylindrical bridge piers
An experimental approach was carried out to study the time development and extension of scouring around a circular pier protected by a collar. The experiments included the study of scouring around an unprotected pier as well as the pier protected with collars located at different levels. Width of collars was 3 times the pier diameter. It was found that with collars, though the scour depth and t...

Failure of the bridges due to local scour around their piers can cause serious life losses and property damages and create significant environmental problems. In this experimental study, scour hole geometry around circular bridge piers were investigated. The experiments were carried out in a rectangular flume 80 cm wide, 18.6 m long and 75 cm high by using uniform sediment with a median diamete...
